Shipping

We ship via DHL and use DHL GoGreen, DHL's climate-friendly shipping option.

Rates:

  • Germany: free
  • Switzerland: €16.90
  • Rest of Europe outside the EU, including Liechtenstein: €19.90
  • United States: €23.90

Why we are not shipping into the EU right now

The new EU packaging regulation applies from 12 August 2026. It requires us to appoint and pay a separate authorised representative in every single EU country we deliver to. That runs to several hundred euros per country per year, every year, whether we sell one camera there or a hundred. There is no minimum quantity below which the obligation does not apply any more.

For a workshop our size that means twenty-six countries at once, before a single order has come in. So we are doing it the other way around: we ship within Germany first, and open one country at a time as soon as enough people from that country have raised their hand.

If you live in the EU and want a camera, add your country to the list. It is not an order and it costs nothing. We will write to you as soon as we open your country.

Every camera is made by hand in Stuttgart after your order and is not held in stock, so a production time is added to the shipping time.

Production: five working days. We start as soon as your payment reaches us.

Shipping, from handover to DHL:

  • Within Germany: two to five working days
  • Switzerland: four to nine working days
  • United States: seven to fourteen working days
  • Rest of Europe outside the EU: five to twenty-one working days

Total delivery time:

  • Within Germany: seven to ten working days
  • Switzerland: nine to fourteen working days
  • United States: twelve to nineteen working days
  • Rest of Europe outside the EU: ten to twenty-six working days

The times for destinations outside the EU include customs clearance.

Working days are Monday to Saturday, excluding nationwide German public holidays. For orders of six cameras or more we state the date in the quote beforehand.

Returns and right of withdrawal

As a consumer you have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal. The full text and the model withdrawal form are on the right-of-withdrawal page.

Return shipping cost: If you withdraw, you bear the direct cost of returning the goods under § 357(6) BGB. We recommend tracked shipping; the risk of loss until receipt by us rests with the returning party.

Refunds: After we receive your withdrawal we reimburse all payments, including standard shipping costs, within fourteen days, using the same payment method you used originally. We may withhold the reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or until you have supplied evidence of having sent them back, whichever is earlier.

Diminished value: You are liable only for a reduction in value resulting from handling that goes beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods (§ 357(7) BGB).

Warranty

A statutory warranty of two years from delivery applies to our products (§§ 437, 438 BGB).

We design and manufacture all products ourselves; we are the manufacturer within the meaning of the GPSR.

Product identification: The model, batch or serial number is shown on each product's detail page.

Safety information: The camera contains a sharp needle and is not a toy; it is not suitable for children under 14. You mix the Caffenol developer yourself from instant coffee, vitamin C and baking soda. All three ingredients are food; baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is an approved food additive (E500) and is not classified as hazardous in the EU. The mixed developer is still not a drink and does not belong in your eyes; wash your hands after mixing. The full safety information is on the product page.

Shipping outside the EU

Beyond Germany we ship to Switzerland, the United States and further European countries outside the EU. The selectable countries are listed during checkout, and that list is exhaustive. If yours is missing, add your country to the list. We will write to you as soon as we open it.

VAT. For deliveries to a country outside the EU VAT territory we do not charge German VAT (VAT-exempt export supply, § 4 no. 1 lit. a in conjunction with § 6 UStG). The price shown is the final price you pay us.

Customs and import charges. On import, customs duty and import VAT arise in the destination country. These charges are not included in the price and are paid by you as the recipient, directly to the authorities or to DHL (DAP delivery terms). DHL may add a handling fee. We cannot predict the amount — it is set by the law of your country and by the €79 goods value.

Withdrawal. We grant the fourteen-day right of withdrawal voluntarily outside the EU as well. You bear the cost of returning the camera; from a distant country that can exceed what it is worth. We do not refund import charges you have already paid — you would need to reclaim those from your customs authority.
